When we talk about having the right attitude for motorcycling in our courses, Suman could very well be the example we’d choose to use day-in, day-out.  It is refreshing to see a person go about motorcycling in such a thoughtful, passionate way.  For these reasons and more, Suman is our Rider of the Month for August 2016!

Getting The Right Start

Suman began his motorcycling career in Florida.  He attended a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course there in 1994.  Since that time, he continued to educate himself by attending three additional rider training courses (Confident RiderCourse, Total Control Level 1, and Total Control Level 2).  Most recently, he jumped onto the track with TEAM Arizona and Desert Road Racing at Wild Horse Pass where we provide an entry level experience for riders seeking track time.  What impresses us most is that after 22 years of riding, Suman is still trying to find ways to improve his riding.  He provides some insight on his desire to learn more:

I start with the premise that my bike’s capabilities are far greater than my own.  I do my best to close that gap with training and practice.

We think this humble approach serves Suman VERY well.

A Few of Suman’s Favorite Things

We all ride for different reasons.  Motorcyclists are rugged individualists, so it is no surprise that Suman enjoys elements about motorcycling that superficially may seem contradictory:

I enjoy touring on bikes that aren’t tourers.  I’ve ridden Death Valley, the Coronado Trail, and other places across the Southwest on my Buell, and have also done 1000 and 1500 mile Iron Butt rides on it.

Of course, it doesn’t mean the obvious pleasures miss the mark with Suman:

My favorite thing about riding is the nimbleness; the far better handling, acceleration, and braking (not to mention cool factor) compared to most cars. Related to that is the smaller footprint – physical, financial, and environmental.

The future looks bright for Suman.  Keep your eyes peeled for a wide-grinning road rider venturing off-road.  He’ll be the one exploring unpaved roads and trails on his new dual sport.  Knowing Suman, he’ll eventually be touring on his dual sport!

  1. Suman, great bike (I have the 2009 XB12R in black and red myself) and I just did 1100 miles over four days in California a couple of weeks ago… so to hear you’ve done an iron butt and a 1500 on the Buell, that’s dang impressive sir!

Hope to see you out on the road!
