John Kostelny was a respected RiderCoach for TEAM Arizona, a retired Air Force Major, and a passionate motorcyclist.  He was also a father, brother, and grandfather.  On August 11, 2012, at 62 years of age, John was killed by an impaired motorist when that motorist struck John from behind at an intersection.

John’s experiences during his forty years of riding motivated him to share his knowledge with others.  He found just the right vehicle by becoming a Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoach.  He truly felt his time as RiderCoach would help save lives and increase overall riding enjoyment for training participants.

John’s efforts resulted in hundreds of riders trained during his time as a RiderCoach.  He could quickly connect with students enabling them to maximize their performance while reducing their anxiety.

We believe John would want us to ask questions of ourselves from this incident.  We also believe he would want us to act by refusing to drive or ride impaired, by increasing our skills through training, and by continuing to work towards sharing the road as safely as possible.

Please join us by honoring John as RiderCoach of the Month for September 2012.
