Rider of the Month

One great part about rider training is the ability to meet so many great people.  For RiderCoaches, it is rare for us to connect with folks outside of the training range.  How fortunate was it that we were able to re-connect with former students Keith and Marie Arnold at a recent motorcycling event.  Bonus points if you recognize Marie from her riding role in our Introduction to Motorcycling video!

One element that might strike you right away is the type and size of motorcycles they both ride.  Yep, Ducati red runs through their veins and they’re not afraid of the big boys.  To resolve any confusion, yes, that Ducati Diavel is Marie’s ride.  Keith is no slouch with his Multistrada 1200 either.  Jealous yet?  We are!

The Arnolds took their Basic RiderCourses in May of 2012 and haven’t looked back.  Keith talks about his riding experience in a frank way:

I wish I knew why I waited so long to start riding a motorcycle!  I feel like I have got to get in as much riding as possible to make up for lost time. I sold my car so that should help.

I love that no matter what kind of day you have had or are about to have; riding the motorcycle can make it all not matter. The perfect way to get away from any of life’s challenges; total freedom. My biggest challenge on the motorcycle is consistency. There are days when I hit my marks and take my lines perfect and think that I “got it”. Other days….not so much.

Marie also talked about her riding challenges in her interview:

Starting out I often had those “oh crap” moments with sharp, tight corners and slow speed turns which would scare me to death. But I was always excited to get back on and do better tomorrow!

We’re sympathetic to Keith and Marie’s confessions.  The truly great part about riding is that with each new ride, we have another opportunity to practice and increase our skill level.

Here’s some riding info the Arnolds have learned during their year of riding:

  • KEITH:  Stay hydrated.  I could not believe how thirsty riding makes you.  Drink plenty of water and take lots of little rest stops to not get fatigued.
  • MARIE:  Always wear a helmet!  Even after a short ride out my visor is full of bugs.  🙂

We’re truly excited to have Keith and Marie as part of the TEAM Arizona family.  We can’t wait to see them back on the range, but more importantly, want to see them out on the road having fun and riding well.

Riders, we want to honor YOU!  If you want to become a TEAM Arizona’s Rider of the Month, entering is SIMPLE.
