We’re starting to see a trend.  Women in their 20’s are coming into motorcycling in droves.  They’re taking the handlebars by the grips and owning motorcycling.  It doesn’t matter the niche either; cafe racer, dirt biker, cruiser…you name it.   It is a very exciting time to watch motorcycling evolve into this rich scene of men and women riding together.

Kacie Wilson Black n WhiteKacie Wilson decided she wanted to be part of that movement.  In 2014 she participated in the Basic RiderCourse.  Now she finds herself on various racetracks across the United States.  It is awesome to watch her transformation from newbie to well-trained, experienced rider.  For this reason and more, Kacie is our October 2016 Rider of the Month!

KACIE’S STORY

After riding dirt for four years, Kacie wanted to take it to the street.  She received some good advice from a fellow rider and took the Basic RiderCourse with TEAM Arizona in May 2014.  She said, “I will admit I was nervous when I stepped into the classroom but the instructors made it so fun that the nerves quickly subsided. I was so excited for the second day portion and I learned a lot of information that I still practice two years later.  I had fun doing it.”

Still practicing two years later on her 2006 Yamaha R6?  We love to hear that at TEAM Arizona.  The practice never ends for us.  We asked Kacie what challenges her most and she replied:

The patience it takes to get something just right. When I have to slow things down a little bit to fine tune some lines or to practice my trail braking comfortably. Sometimes it takes me a while and it takes a lot of concentration and trial-and-error but that is all part of the thrill of it.  I also love the people I have met at the tracks. They are so supportive and it’s been great to bond with others involved in this sport.

Kacie Next to MotorcycleWhen asked what she’s working on next she’s emphatic:

I want to hopefully start racing and coaching. I recently gave a new rider some advice at the track and seeing the rider put the words I said into action on the track and to see him progress made me feel really great. I feel I have a lot to work on as far as my riding goes before that happens but eventually I’d like to accomplish both.

Any advice for new riders?

Take it slow and ride your own ride without worrying about keeping up with anyone. Practice becoming a safe and smooth rider. Speed will naturally follow and catch up with your skill.

Reads like some sound advice to us!  Well, when you’re ready Kacie, we’d love to have you come full circle to coach for us at TEAM Arizona.  Who wouldn’t enjoy learning from someone who is excited to share their passion?
