Stephen Barella: TEAM Arizona Rider of the Month December 2015!

Young adults are getting a bum rap these days. Tough to go a day on Facebook without one meme or another disparaging the video game generation. We’re here to give credit where credit is due. Stephen Barella, TEAM Arizona’s Rider of the Month for December 2015, put down the game controller and picked up a clutch and throttle. Would it have been so if he had not played video games?
I started riding because I saw a 2004 Ducati Monster in a video game that I was playing. I thought it was the most amazing motorcycle I had ever seen and I was determined I would ride, and hopefully, own a Monster.
How would young Stephen go about fulfilling his dream of riding a Monster? He started his path with TEAM Arizona with a little help and inspiration from his Mom, Debran Barella. She encouraged Stephen to take the Introduction to Motorcycling course just to see if motorcycling would interest him. Sure enough, the fire was lit, and the Basic RiderCourse followed. Stephen learned a lot from the course. As you can tell from the Dainese jacket and Arai helmet, Stephen is a huge ATGATT fan. He needs it when he goes on his favorite ride up Yarnell Hill into Prescott and up Mingus Mountain.
Seven months after completing the course, Stephen is ripping around on his cool, new Kawasaki Vulcan S. It’s not the Ducati Monster, but it is a great first ride and a good bike on which to build his chops. And it is not to say he hasn’t sneaked in a Ducati demo ride or three this year.
So folks, how cool is that? We officially have a Mother/Son Rider of the Month combo!
