Getting an Arizona motorcycle license (aka endorsement) involves a broad training category, but the most important knowledge can only be earned through direct experience. It begs the question: how do you get quality, hands-on experience without a license – and how do you get licensed before you know how to ride?

The best answer is taking a comprehensive motorcycle rider training course in a fun, stress-free environment. Continue reading this article to learn what to expect during TEAM Arizona’s Basic RiderCourse, and accelerate your brand-new motorcycle journey today.

Getting a Motorcycle License in Arizona

Getting a feel for how a motorcycle handles is enough to keep track of, let alone learning how the spoken AND unspoken rules of the road differ from driving a car. It is crucial to take it at just the right speed and in a safe environment under the watchful eye of trained, experienced instructors.  You’ll benefit from their years of experience behind the handlebars in a way that will fast-forward your own skill and riding strategy development.

TEAM Arizona’s suite of RiderCourses keeps the joy of riding alive as you also gain the book knowledge necessary to become a competent and safe rider. Further, have a fun, convenient way to obtain your first Arizona motorcycle license.

HOW DO YOU GET A MOTORCYCLE LICENSE?

TEAM Arizona makes obtaining a motorcycle license convenient, safe, and FUN!  We’ll even provide the motorcycle, helmet, and gloves.  Check out our video below:

In our Basic RiderCourse you will learn the fundamentals of riding safely.  We’ll also provide the written and riding evaluations that will enable you to get your motorcycle license (also known as an “M” motorcycle endorsement).  Once you pass both written and riding evaluations as part of the course, you will take your completion card to Arizona Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), pay for a new license (currently $7), and they’ll add the full motorcycle endorsement to your license.

REALLY?  NO TESTING AT ARIZONA MVD?

Correct!  TEAM Arizona is approved by the Arizona Department of Transportation and MVD to offer our course which includes testing.  Pass the course and you’ll be able to start your riding adventures without any additional testing required from MVD. The motorcycle endorsement provided through the course allows you to ride without any restrictions whatsoever (unlike a permit). You’ll be able to just get out and RIDE!

AZ Legal Requirements To Ride a Motorcycle

Like almost every state, Arizona motorcycle license requirements are slightly nuanced. That’s why we fine-tune our training course to comply with the state of Arizona’s legal codes. For instance:

  • Though you must be 16 to get an Arizona motorcycle license, those 15 years and six months old can learn to ride in our course without a permit!  It should be noted that all participants under 18 years of age must operate for six months under permit conditions before receiving their full Arizona motorcycle endorsement.
  • For those with a current driver’s license, AZ accepts training course certificates as a substitute for MVD tests.
  • AZ motorcycle licensing fees are different depending on each person’s age

The Importance of a Comprehensive Motorcycle Rider Training Course

Nothing softens the learning curve like enlisting the support of experienced RiderCoaches with innumerable miles and teaching hours under their belt. Along with personalized training, our elite RiderCourses cover the broadest possible range of technical, legal, and environmental factors affecting your ability to ride safely and confidently.

Our comprehensive curricula covers a large amount of ground, including:

  • Self-paced online study, which includes videos
  • Interactive riding scenarios in a live classroom setting
  • Hands-on training on our training motorcycles at TEAM Arizona’s closed courses throughout the state
  • How to use a clutch, cornering, shifting, stopping, low-speed maneuvers, hazard-avoidance techniques, and more.

Further, you won’t need your own motorcycle (or scooter). TEAM Arizona provides learning bikes, as well as the use of an ADOT-approved helmet and protective full-fingered gloves – though you’ll need to bring your own eye protection, a long-sleeve shirt or jacket, sturdy pants (like jeans), and sturdy, ankle-high footwear.

Get Licensed Faster and Safer

We’ve honed our RiderCourse during more than 30 years in operation, emphasizing hands-on practice for the most rapid skill development. Along with a long track record of fun and insightful riding tips you won’t find anywhere else, our foundational curriculum also grants riders a certificate of completion that meets state of Arizona licensing requirements (and it could even make your insurance rates lower).

With TEAM Arizona, we make learning to ride a motorcycle as fun and productive as possible. It’s just a small token of our thanks for helping keep one more rider safe on the roads!

  1. Hello, I am writing in to ask how a motorcycle license works in Arizona if I am an out of state resident from Indiana who still has an Indiana ID. Before I follow through with TEAM Arizona lessons I would like to get information regarding this.

  2. Can you test ride a motorcycle at a dealership with just a motorcycle permit?

  3. Thanks for the question Paul. Specifically it depends upon dealership policy. It has been our experience that most dealerships do require a full motorcycle endorsement to test ride their vehicles.

  4. Hi,
I took the basic rider course a couple years ago but never followed through with going to the dmv for the license. I used to have the card in my wallet but I have since lost it. Would I need to retake the two day course or is there another option to bypass the DMV testing.
    Thank you.

  7. Yes sir, we do, for active and veteran. Give us a call at 480.998.9888, Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm to obtain the discount and register over the phone.

  8. I have a side by side with motorcycle plate for on road use. Do I need an endorsement?

  9. Don’t really know how to ride, I have ridden around the neighborhood but I am by no means proficient. Will I learn to become more proficient?

  10. Absolutely. The Basic RiderCourse is a learn-to-ride course. We will be showing you how to handle the motorcycle at low speeds, how to corner the motorcycle at higher speeds, how to swerve to avoid hazards, how to cross over hazards, and how to get your motorcycle stopped with more precision.
